This class consists of 8 Yin Yoga poses focusing on the upper spine.
We can hold a lot of stress in the upper back, because in this modern culture we live in, we are often hunched over something. When we work behind a computer, driving a car, texting on a mobile phone, we are always hunched over. We will mainly work on the upper thoracic and cervical spine, where the vertebrae are much thinner. Because the bones are thinner in the upper spine they calcify and become brittle if you don't exercise them properly.
In this Yin class for the upper spine the emphasis is on slowly stressing the bones and connective tissues to help to keep the bones strong and avoid them from becoming weak, and causing kyphosis (hunchback) and keeping the tissues juicy and more malleable.
